The horizontal axis of the this graph represents the time (starting 2004), and the vertical shows how often a specific term is searched for relative to the total number of searches, globally.

SEM Rush: A really awesome tool that shows what keywords you’re currently ranking for on Google.

Ad and Traffic Buyer Suggestions – Whenever a website is researched, SEMRush displays several related websites that advertise via Google Adwords and this can give you an peek into the potential advertisers for your website.

Since we’ll be doing quite a bit of research before building the actual blog, this plug-in is a huge time saver. When you’re browsing websites or blogs that are based around a certain topic – Similar Web will project similar sites in a sidebar. I have discovered some true gems in my markets with this little tool.

Deeper Web – http://www.deeperweb.com/

This tool is awesome. It’s the Google Search Engine but on steroids. If you conduct a search with Deeper Web, you will be presented with “Topic Maps” – tag based results that spit out a whole slew of related searches. These tags will present you with a boatload of ideas for additional keywords to target. Very often, these keywords do not show up in the Google Keyword tool if you conduct.

As you will learn in the famous NanoContext manual – my blogs are highly centered around the news in a certain market. Keeping up with that news can be a bit of a drag. Not anymore – by using Feedly, you can easily put all your news items in a magazine-like landing page that sorts and updates whenever news is available. Massive time saver and you’ll never miss another news item in your market.

Together with SEO for Firefox, this plug-in is a classic and nobody who is relying on search engine (organic) traffic should be without it. It’s a bit of a dashboard that displays Google PR, Alexa rank, Compete rank and a whole slew of other things you need to know about your competitors’ blog or website.

Another classic (some prefer SEO Quake over this one but I find it clunky). Developed and meticulously maintained by Aaron Wall, this plug-in will help determine competitor’s strength while simply browsing Google. It does some things similar to Search Status mentioned above but I like this tool for it’s flawless integration with the Firefox browser. This is one of the most useful and fantastic plugins out there. You really need this one if you are serious in doing anything with your site’s SEO.
